About the Author

Soraya trained as a classical calligrapher in the Islamic tradition. She is one of the first European’s to be awarded the icazetname or calligraphy license from Istanbul. Soraya is a Londoner and is always finding new ways to explore her art form. Her practice is a process of disciplined freedom and she enjoys the constant tension between remaining true to her classical training while exploring further possibilities. She recently founded Nuqta – the world’s first user-generated mobile museum of Arabic typography and calligraphy.
