The Swallows of Syria

I am a photographer and I live in the Middle East. I have recently completed a long-term project on female Syrian refugees in Lebanon photographing a series of women fully covered that were hiding in the Bekaa. The women photographed were all Muslims. I'd like to specify that the woman in the photograph above usually wears a hijab and her face is uncovered, but because she was scared of repression and being caught by the Assad regime or the Hezbollah she was covered with a full burka in order not to be recognized. She said, “It doesn’t matter who wins this war. In Syria women don’t have rights from the day they are born. As a Syrian woman I don't know what freedom means."
