Poem of Love
Raitu Rabee bi 'aynu Rabee. Related by a saint, the original poem translates: “I see my Lord with the eyes of my Lord (the heart)” or “I see my beloved with the eyes of my beloved.”
The quote means that when you love another truly selflessly you see them through their eyes, not yours. The penultimate level of respect, admiration, and even devotion is that your self disappears entirely.
On the other hand, when Allah ta'ala, God Almighty, loves someone, He begins to unveil the resplendent beauty of His Names and Attributes to that one, since His is the only real existence. He Almighty gives that beloved the best, so seeing the Rabb through the eyes of the Rabb is to comprehend perfectly the relationship of Lord and servant; to know how everlasting felicity is attained.
The ultimate lover of creation is, of course, its Rabb. We almost never see except with our own selfish eyes, so we struggle, and our eyes do not give us this perfect vision. We settle for much lesser loves, and yet nothing makes one happier than being in love, a sure sign that the Rabb’s love is the greatest.
We all desire to be near our beloved and that is the business of life. So very simply, this whole creation is built on love. We are all made of a different light that is ultimately connected to one source, one light, and that is our connection with the Divine.
