About the Author

Suzanne Syeda Shah is a poet, writer, and medical student.  She was born in Saudi Arabia to Bengali parents and immigrated with her family to Los Angeles, California when she was four years old. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at UC Berkeley, she went on to earn a Master’s of Science in Medical Science.  Her poetry has been published in multiple anthologies at UC Berkeley, and her recent short story was showcased in Love Inshaallah: The Secret Love Lives of Muslim American Women. Next to writing, her passion for community service and the need to improve the healthcare system has led her to pursue a career in medicine.  She is currently attending UC San Diego School of Medicine with future plans of becoming a surgeon and working in the community.
